Led research initiative and designed a website with a team of designers, for non-profit, J*Crow
Discovery
Problem
Black women and Women of Color make up less than 11% of incarcerated populations yet pay over 60% of criminal justice fees. This gap leaves over 1 million women without the tools and support they need. J*Crow’s mission to help PoC navigate the criminal justice system by providing access to information, courses, financial tools, and entrepreneurial resources.
Goal
Design a website that clearly communicates J*Crow’s mission, highlights the inequities faced by Black women and Women of Color, and motivates funders to support expanded resources.

Research Methods
Using literary analysis, we gained deeper insights into our issue and target audiences, while competitive analysis helped us recognize the unaddressed needs within the user groups.
Our literary analyses revealed the deep-rooted mistreatment of Black women and Women of Color in the U.S. justice system, shaped by racism, harsh sentencing, the war on drugs, and a lack of gender-responsive and trauma-informed care. Inadequate healthcare, criminalization of domestic abuse survivors, overpolicing of Black youth, and costly legal processes further compound these inequities.
